Anna Campbell
Meet Anna Campbell!
ANNA CAMPBELL has written six multi award-winning historical romances for Avon HarperCollins and her work is published in eleven languages. Always a voracious reader, Anna decided when she was a child that she wanted to be a writer. Once she discovered the wonderful world of romance novels, she knew exactly what she wanted to write. Anna has won numerous awards for her Regency-set romances including Romantic Times Reviewers Choice, the Booksellers Best, the Golden Quill (twice), the Heart of Excellence, the Aspen Gold (twice) and the Australian Romance Readers Association’s favorite historical romance (three times). Her books have twice been nominated for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA Award and twice for Australia’s Romantic Book of the Year.
First question:
Eggnog or Mimosas? Are you old enough to drink?
You know, I don’t think I’ve ever had eggnog. It’s not huge over here in Australia. On the other hand, I really like mimosas so I’ll pick that.
We’re also taking pictures with Santa, did you bring a gift for him? (Maybe a new release or a pretty book cover…)
I brought Santa my latest e-bundle – three books in one, CLAIMING THE COURTESAN, TEMPT THE DEVIL and MY RECKLESS SURRENDER, sold at a bargain price as THE COURTESAN COLLECTION (only in Australia and New Zealand). Here’s the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/The-Courtesan-Collection-ebook/dp/B00642XEPG
Please enter. Drinks are served by the elves in the corner.
Excellent!
What’s your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas, definitely. Here in Australia, it’s the big family holiday and who doesn’t like goodwill to all (wo)men?
Did you ask Santa for anything good?
Snigger. That would be telling.
What’s your favorite place to spend the holidays?
At the beach.
What is your favorite Christmas memory?
As a kid, opening presents with the family under the Christmas tree.
Do you have personal resolutions for the New Years? Anything interesting?
Um, write more?
Why do you write romance?
Who doesn’t love a happy ending?
How long have you been writing for? And how would you describe your publication journey?
I’ve been writing all my life. I finished my first novel when I was 17. My journey to publication was long and tortuous but eventually I got here!
Are you a plotter or pantser? What is your routine?
Pantser. Routine? What routine?
What characteristics do all your heroes/heroines have in all your stories?
Both heroes and heroines are smart and have a sense of humor (even if sometimes quite black!). All are (or become) honorable people.
What writing resources do you abide by as a writer?
Tea in copious amounts!
What advice would you give aspiring authors?
Sit down and write. There are so many distractions these days but if you don’t get the words on the page, you can’t call yourself a writer.
What are you working on right now?
I’m about to start the second book in my first series. Can’t say much more at this stage except that the hero is a charming, Scarlet Pimpernel type guy. Sigh.
What news would you like to share with your readers?
MIDNIGHT’S WILD PASSION, my most recent release, was just nominated for a Romantic Times Reviewers Choice Award as best sensual historical romance of 2011.

London’s most notorious seducer, Nicholas Challoner lives solely for revenge . . .
The dashing, licentious Marquess of Ranelaw can never forgive Godfrey Demarest for ruining his sister—now the time has come to repay the villain in the same coin. But one formidably intriguing impediment stands in the way of Nicholas’s vengeance: Miss Antonia Smith, companion to his foe’s unsuspecting daughter.
Having herself been deceived and disgraced by a rogue—banished by her privileged family as a result and forced to live a lie—Antonia vows to protect her charge from the same cruel fate. She recognizes Ranelaw for the shameless blackguard he is and will devote every ounce of her intelligence and resolve to thwarting him.
Yet Antonia has always had a fatal weakness for rakes . . .

December 24th, 2011 at 4:48 pm
Mery Christmas, Anna! Tea sounds good. I prefer coffee and lots of it but a good English tea and tea biscuit will do in a pinch. Happy New Year!
December 24th, 2011 at 5:00 pm
Thank you for joining the party! So glad you’re here! And I love your book cover for Midnight’s Wild Passion!
December 24th, 2011 at 5:28 pm
The beach sounnds like a marvaleous place to spend the holidays. I believe it’s nice and sunny in Australia now. We have a green, mild Christmas this year but it’s not freezing cold either but one of these days I’m going to spend Christmas in a summery place. Happy Holidays.
December 24th, 2011 at 5:33 pm
please do keep that new year’s resolution – means more books for me to enjoy by you
happy holidays!

Lovely interview. I’m more of a coffee addict but love Asian teas (Chinese, Korean, Japanese). Thanks for making the giveaway international. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
December 25th, 2011 at 12:42 am
I love my chocolate tea, Congrats on all your Awards! *Wow that’s a lot* Historical romance is so cool, I first started having an interest in Historical romance when I read Macbeth in high school, someone didn’t file back a paperback correctly in the library when i went their looking for it, the cover caught my interest and that was it. Happy Holidays!

December 25th, 2011 at 6:43 pm
Hey, thanks, everyone for swinging around. Boxing Day here in Oz and it’s absolutely beautiful. Just been in the pool. Poured like a bucket Christmas Eve and blew a gale yesterday so it’s nice to see the sun!
December 25th, 2011 at 6:43 pm
Thanks for the seasons greetings, Loretta. Right back atcha. And thanks for saying you like the books.
December 25th, 2011 at 6:45 pm

Happy Holidays!
December 25th, 2011 at 6:45 pm
Hi Juanita! That’s a familiar moniker!
Thanks for saying you like Antonia. She was great fun to write, especially when she and Ranelaw were striking sparks off each other.
December 25th, 2011 at 6:46 pm
Snort, Laney! Loved the rakes joke! Isn’t this a fun idea for the Holidays? I’m looking forward to swinging by and hanging out with you girls and the Romance Author Hot Spot gals too.
December 25th, 2011 at 6:47 pm
Hey, thanks, Jean! And Happy Holiday to you too!
December 25th, 2011 at 6:48 pm
Clarissa, where are my manners? Thanks so much for inviting me to be part of the party. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! x
December 25th, 2011 at 6:49 pm
Marilyn, I haven’t shifted to an e-reader yet although I can see it in my future. I’m very slow to adopt new technology – only got a digital camera at the end of last year and now I don’t know how I managed without one!
December 25th, 2011 at 6:50 pm
Merry Christmas, Rebecca! I was thrilled to pieces with the RT award nomination. It’s one of the most prestigious in romancelandia so I was absolutely stoked when I saw Midnight listed there!
December 25th, 2011 at 6:51 pm
Gladys, I can imagine how chilly the beach is in the Northern Hemisphere right now. It’s a glorious day here, just right for the beach. Christmas and midsummer (and the long holidays) coincide here. Happy Christmas!
December 25th, 2011 at 6:52 pm
Ooh, Jennie, you’re playing my song
Thanks! Hope you enjoy them. They’re not a series so you can start anywhere.
December 25th, 2011 at 6:53 pm
Hey, it’s my friend Fedora! Happy Christmas to you and yours! Hope you had/are having a wonderful day. Thanks for saying you look forward to more books. A long gap till the next one but then the idea is to have them out a lot more quickly after that.
December 28th, 2011 at 1:06 am
Well, OK then
As long as you keep them coming, Anna
December 25th, 2011 at 6:54 pm
Hi Tabitha! Thanks for saying that. Happy Holidays!
December 25th, 2011 at 6:54 pm
Hi Jane! Waving madly back! Happy Christmas! xxx
December 25th, 2011 at 6:56 pm
Gabriella, I used to be a major coffee drinker but had a funny reaction to caffeine so I’ve been on tea ever since. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too (don’t even want to think about 2012 yet!).
December 25th, 2011 at 6:56 pm
Hey, thanks, Clarissa. I must say I love that dress. Love this fashion for gals in glam gowns on romance covers. Wasn’t so keen on the stray body parts or the headless torsos.
December 25th, 2011 at 6:57 pm
Na, actually summer hasn’t really hit here yet. January and Feb here are usually really humid and not that nice unless you’re at the beach! Happy Christmas and thanks for being such a great supporter of all the blogs! x
December 25th, 2011 at 6:59 pm
Awww, gamistress, that’s a nice reaction to my new year’s resolution
Thank you! And Happy Christmas to you too!
December 25th, 2011 at 7:00 pm
Thanks for saying that, Cathy. Lovely to hear. And happy ALL SEASON’s greetings to you too
December 25th, 2011 at 7:00 pm
Thanks so much, Monica! Happy Christmas to you too! x
December 25th, 2011 at 7:01 pm
Oh, isn’t that funny, Joder? Here the fantasy is definitely a white Christmas. I can snow in Tasmania at Christmas (believe me, I’ve been there wearing shorts and t-shirts and I felt the impact) but a white Christmas is something we don’t really get in Australia. Happy Christmas!
December 25th, 2011 at 7:03 pm
Thanks so much, Chey! Happy Christmas!
December 25th, 2011 at 7:04 pm
Shelley, the Scarlet Pimpernel is such a fun, archetypal character, isn’t he? I’m having a wonderful time playing with a man who hides his essential self under a dandy-ish exterior. Happy Christmas!
December 25th, 2011 at 7:08 pm
Tamsyn, I’ve never really got into any teas other than good old plain English-style black. Even Earl Grey is a bit too exotic for me
December 25th, 2011 at 8:07 pm
Hi Anna…I, too, like spending the holidays at the beach. We live about 20 minutes from a lovely beach in NC and we always make a point of spending time walking & shelling on Christmas Eve/Christmas/New Year’s Eve/&/or New Year’s Day.
Cheers.
December 25th, 2011 at 8:18 pm
Awesome. Three books in one. Hope you’ve had a MERRY CHRISTMAS!
December 25th, 2011 at 9:57 pm
‘Routine? What routine?’ LOL! Same goes for me.
December 25th, 2011 at 11:16 pm
Criss, chocolate tea? That sounds terrifically exotic! I think you’re the only person I know who got into historical romance through Macbeth! What a cool introduction! Thanks for the congrats on the awards. I was a bit of a contest hound as an unpubbed author. That hasn’t changed much
December 25th, 2011 at 11:17 pm
Hi Gladys! Merry Christmas to you too. I hope Santa is feeling generous
December 25th, 2011 at 11:18 pm
Hey, Carol, lovely to hear you’re up on the backlist! Midnight is a little bit lighter than the earlier books although I still think (hope?) it’s still got plenty of emotion. Happy Christmas. I hope the turkey was yummy! x
December 25th, 2011 at 11:19 pm
Hi Barbara! That dress is SOOO romantic, isn’t it? I think that’s a bit part of the appeal of historicals, the romantic clothes they wear. Thanks for swinging by!
December 25th, 2011 at 11:19 pm
Gail, lovely to see you! Thanks for swinging by. I hope you had a lovely Christmas! x
December 25th, 2011 at 11:20 pm

Love reading your books and can’t wait to start with a new series.
Happy Holidays!!!
December 25th, 2011 at 11:23 pm

December 25th, 2011 at 11:24 pm
Thanks so much, Kimmy! It’s such a different experience writing a series. I’m really enjoying it. And I’m looking forward to linking all those stories together.
December 26th, 2011 at 12:45 pm
Hi, Anna! I’ve been getting the itch to read historical romance again, and seeing as historicals were my first love in romance, it looks like I’d better start making a list of your books and start catching up
I hope you had a wonderful holiday!
December 26th, 2011 at 3:10 pm
The best books are the ones that can make me giggle & cry. A lot of those happen to be set in the regency time period.

Belated Happy Holidays! And hope things get even better for you in the New Year!
December 27th, 2011 at 3:47 pm
Hi, Anna! I enjoyed reading your interview as it has given me a chance to get to know more about you. I am a great fan of yours and am amazed to know that you have been writing since you were 17. I guess that means you knew from a young age “what you wanted to be when you grew up!” I love the cover of your novel, “Midnight’s Wild Passion!” Whew – so sexy! The shades of purple are smoldering and mysterious. My favorite color as you would know if you could see my fingernails right now!
Thanks for joining in on the fun. Wishing you all the best in the New Year!
December 27th, 2011 at 3:55 pm
Gabby, clearly you’re a woman of excellent taste

Michelle, it sounds like we’re a match made in heaven!
Happy New Year!
December 27th, 2011 at 4:01 pm
Seriously? Never had eggnog? Good with brandy! I imagine Christmas in australia is a very different experience than it is here in the USA since it’s summer there. I like the Australian version. I like characters who are smart, too–and funny but maybe not so dark. Congratulations on all those awards and the 2 Rita nominations. That is awesome.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:38 pm
I’m a totally tea junkie also. LOL Happy New Year!
December 27th, 2011 at 4:41 pm
Phyllis, what a lovely message. Thank you very much! Happy New Year to you!
December 27th, 2011 at 4:42 pm
Theresa, I tend to read more than watch TV too although there are a few things like Jeopardy (we get the American version here) that I rarely miss if I can help it. Hope you get your new year’s resolution!
December 27th, 2011 at 4:43 pm
Thanks so much, Anya. Right back atcha!
December 27th, 2011 at 4:44 pm
Connie of the purple fingernails!
Thanks for swinging by and thanks for saying you love the books. I love that cover too, it’s so lush and romantic, isn’t it? I loved books as objects from when I was a teeny tiny little girl. I think it was inevitable I’d want to grow up and write them! Happy New Year!
December 27th, 2011 at 4:45 pm
Sarah, I’ve only had one cold-weather Christmas, when I lived in London. And it just didn’t feel right not to be sweltering at this time of year! I wanted sun and I got grey skies – it didn’t even snow! It was just bleak and fairly miserable. Definitely nicer in Australia! Thanks for the congrats.
December 27th, 2011 at 4:46 pm
DeAnna, I raise my teacup in your general direction!
Happy New Year!
December 27th, 2011 at 4:48 pm
