D.L. Jackson
Meet D.L. Jackson!
D. L. Jackson is a writer of urban fantasy, science fiction, military romance and erotic romance. She loves to incorporate crazy plot twists, comedy and the unexpected into her worlds. As a U.S. Army veteran, she naturally adores men in uniform and feels the world could always use more. She does her part by incorporating as many sexy soldiers in her novels as she can. When she isn’t writing or running the roads, you can often find her online chatting with her peers and readers. Grab a cup of iced coffee, pull up your virtual chair and say hi. She loves emails and blog visits from her readers. http://authordljackson.com
First question:
Eggnog or Mimosas? Are you old enough to drink? Eggnog. Yes.
We’re also taking pictures with Santa, did you bring a gift for him? (Maybe a new release or a pretty book cover…) My newest release, This Endris Night.
One party of a lifetime.
One secret a century old which could end it all.
Shiya, a Yupik supermodel, travels to Alaska in pretense of attending a party where she’ll find the man of her dreams, but her real intent is to lure the man of her nightmares to where she can finally end a deadly game of cat and mouse.
Gunnar is on Earth for one reason—to recover the wreckage of a Doppelganger crash, but recovering the ship isn’t easy. The debris is scattered for miles, throughout a resort and human settlements. In order to get closer, he agrees to a date and finds himself face to face with a Terran woman who doesn’t know her genetics are from his world or that she was born to be his. Soon he discovers she’s in grave danger from a Doppelganger hunter.
Please enter. Drinks are served by the elves in the corner.
What’s your favorite holiday and why? Christmas, because I get to see family that don’t live near. It’s cheerful. Pretty lights everywhere and there’s a festive spirit everywhere.
Did you ask Santa for anything good? A new laptop. I’ve worn my other out.
What’s your favorite place to spend the holidays? Home.
What is your favorite Christmas memory? Making a snow woman with my grandmother. We dressed her with a fancy hat and scarf and she had more than the basic snowman curves when we were done with her
Do you have personal resolutions for the New Years? Anything interesting? Nah, my goals are an ongoing thing I tweak all year long, adjusting as I reach them, setting new ones.
Why do you write romance? I love to read it. I like the escape and I enjoy bringing my worlds to life with words and sharing them.
How long have you been writing for? 7 years. And how would you describe your publication journey? Up and down. An ongoing journey.
Are you a plotter or pantser? What is your routine? I’ve never used an outline. I’m a complete pantser.
What characteristics do all your heroes/heroines have in all your stories? Honesty, integrity. I want my readers to like them and I think they need to be trustworthy. Do they have problems, yes, but it’s the way they resolve them that are important to me.
What writing resources do you abide by as a writer? Strunk and White is a must. I have so many resources, but the local library and the lady that works there is one of my favorites.
What advice would you give aspiring authors? Learn your craft. Read everything you can. When you’re ready to give up, tell yourself, I’m going to try this one more time. You will get rejections, it’s part of becoming and author and staying an author. Even published authors get them.
What are you working on right now? Twenty different stories. My science fiction story for the Elatian line at Decadent publishing is the primary focus though.
What news would you like to share with your readers? Well, I’ve got two Edge series stories I recently contracted with Decadent. No release date, but I’m guessing the beginning of next year some time.

Merry Christmas. Thanks for sharing such a sweet memory.
I’ve never done anything with my grandma. It’s not that I didn’t want to, it’s just not everyone is fortunate enough to have a loving grandma.

I love finding new to me authors! I also love reading stories set in Alaska – I’ve been bugging my husband to move there, but he won’t budge, darn it. Usually it’s the other way around, lol. Thank you for the interview and for sharing!
I hope you’ve had a very merry holiday season!

I hope everyone had a great holiday. Keep leaving comments. I’ll be drawing a winner at the end of the week. Yes, 20. Lol. It’s hard to focus on just one, and it works for me, as that’s the way my mind works and I find it helps me to keep my stories fresh. So, what did everyone do for the holidays?
December 26th, 2011 at 8:33 pm
Thanks for talking up your local library…and the library “lady.” As a librarian, I’m always pleased when authors still use their local libraries. We get quite a few writers who use our local public library and my community college library.
I hope Santa brought you a laptop to replace your worn out one.

Sometimes I need to get away from cyberworld, and the best way to research and connect with interesting people is at the library. The lady who works there knows a little bit about everything and was a godsend when I was going through old maps of New Mexico with a story that hA flash backs to Pancho Villa.
December 27th, 2011 at 12:13 am
I absolutely loved This Endris Night! I like the idea of using the library more and I’ve noticed ours is actually open longer hours..which I regard as a good sign.

Another story based in Alaska! I love it. As I live in the interior, it fill my soul with happiness that the landscape here is used in more stories. It just tickles me. Thank you for the great interview and wishing you a very Happy new Year. Adding your book to my must have list and Ican’t wait to read it!

First, thank you for your service to your country.
Science Fiction is a tough genre to write. I admire those who do it. Do you have to keep up with the latest scientific discoveries?
I wish you every success.
December 27th, 2011 at 7:28 pm
I definately incorporate modern science into my stories. I have everything from bionics to invisibility created by bending low frequency em waves. The fun thing about science is that at one time most science was considered fantasy. I’m Sam two hundred years ago you’d have been burned at the stake for talking to someone miles away. Now we do it every day on cell phones. With science fiction I can go so many directions from natural acience to space and beyond. I often have strong military elements in my sci fi, but not always.
December 27th, 2011 at 7:46 pm
Did you build a Dolly Parton snowwoman lol My mom and I did that when I was little.
Those Edge stories are addictive aren’t they?

It has been years since I made a snowman. I don’t think I have done it since I was a kid. If we get enough snow this year, I may have to build one with my nieces & nephew.
Thank you for the giveaway!
Have a wonderful, safe New Year’s!

Alpha or beta heroes? Which do you prefer and why?
December 29th, 2011 at 8:35 pm
Happy New Year! Love your favorite memory. Thank you for sharing a little with us.

Hey, D.L.:) Happy New Year! I love your writing, and can’t wait for your new release.
December 30th, 2011 at 5:42 am
Hi, Brenda. Nice to see you at the bash. Thanks for coming. I have three stories out that are new. Cinderella Wore Combat Boots, which is up for a CAPA, Seducing Liberty, a time travel menage, and This Endris Night. All three are part of Decadent’s popular series 1NS. If you haven’t read any of the 1NightStand books, I think there are close to 100, I highly recommend. There are some awesome authors you might know, and I’ll bet a few new to you. I’m seriously addicted to this series and the biggest reason I write for it. ThNks to everyone for stopping by. Make sure you check out some of the other pages to get a chance at that Kindle and meet some phenom authors.
December 30th, 2011 at 9:09 am
An Alpha is good for the most dominance, but Beta’s are refreshingly HOTT! I fully enjoy both characters in the books I’ve read. But Beta’s have always been more in touch, soothing and caring to the female characters. It’s really a hard question, but with so many books read under my belt I would definitly go with Beta! At least Beta stories have less stress compared to Alpha stories. No worries about ruling and being as “hard core” as an Alpha needs to be.
Now if we are looking at balance…. A menage with an Alpha and a Beta as the cookies to the cream filling is wonderful! A very nice balance of both

To answer your question: I love Alpha heroes with a capital A. I like how confident they are. Sometimes their behavior can be annoying, especially when they try to take charge of everything and everyone. I like to see the right heroine come along who tells him what to do!
