“What the **** Why Romance?”

Boys will be boys. Big brothers will always be big brothers (obviously!!) and they’ll always be the biggest pain in the butt! Recently, things have shaken up in my house…
My big brother recently said to me (after his girlfriend read Sinful) … “What the **** Why Romance Books?” I can’t have my friends know you write that stuff!
My brother doesn’t think I should be writing such things! He jests of course, but is a tad serious as some of his pal’s wives/girlfriends are reading my stories now too. So I have to say to him, Romance makes the world go round. You know, true love, romance, love at first sight. He shakes his head and his girlfriend and I give him the evil eye. Romance isn’t just for women we tell him, but he doesn’t understand why a woman would flip through pages to read two people having sex. Okay, in my brother’s defense…no, he really doesn’t have one to be honest. LOL The man lives in the ice age, I swear!
Unless it’s a hunting, hockey or sports issue magazine, I don’t think I’ve ever seen my big brother pick up a book. Oh, ‘cuse me, the telephone book as he searches for places to get hunting, fishing, hockey equipment. *eye roll*
Men do read romance, I know they do, and I know quite a few that write it. My husband doesn’t read it, mind you, unless I force him to read a scene for me (which he grumbles about), so I know my brother isn’t alone in his shock and dismay that romance is a hot genre. I think he’s shocked to know his little sister – whom he would protect tirelessly from boys – writes spicy and explicit romances! But hey, a girl has to grow up and find her own path, right?
I will say this though, and in my big brother’s round about way of telling me he’s proud…he said, “Well when all your stories go into print, I’ll buy multiples of every one and sell them at work for ya.” Awww, big brother does care! LOL
So readers, do the men in your lives read romance? Do they get you to read passages of hot, sexy stories out loud to them? Would you you’re your husband/significant other to read romances and maybe *gasp* learn something! LOL
