Tawny Weber

Meet Tawny Weber!

Tawny Weber has been writing sassy, sexy stories for Harlequin Blaze since her first book hit the shelves in 2007.  When not obsessing over deadlines, she’s shopping for cute shoes, scrapbooking or hanging out on Facebook and Twitter.  Come by and visit her on the web at www.tawnyweber.com

In December of 2011 Tawny launched her Undercover Ops series with SEX, LIES AND MISTLETOE.  The second book in the series, SEX, LIES & MIDNIGHT is on shelves in January 2012, quickly followed in February by SEX, LIES & VALENTINES.  Be sure to follow Tawny on her Holiday Survival Tour as she celebrates these three books with contests, giveaways and lots of fun.  You can read the first chapter of SEX, LIES & MIDNIGHT on her website, too – all you have to do is join the Reader LoveFest!

First question:

Eggnog or Mimosas? Are you old enough to drink?

I left my ID in my other purse, but I’m definitely old enough to drink.  I’ll have a mimosa, please.  Eggnog isn’t quite my thing.

We’re also taking pictures with Santa, did you bring a gift for him? (Maybe a new release or a pretty book cover…)

I’d love to share my book covers with Santa.  I have three for my Undercover Operatives series that he just might like.

BLURB:

He’s lying. She’s lying. And before long, they’re lying.
Together. In bed…

Born into a con artist family, Maya Black abandoned the grifting life to live on the straight and narrow (and somewhat dull) years ago. But when her family is threatened—and the swindlers are on the verge of becoming the swindled— Maya swings into action. All she needs is a stand-in boyfriend, and the charming, tasty-as-sin Simon Barton will do quite nicely, thanks.

But Simon has a little lie of his own. He’s FBI, and Maya is his inside track to her less-savory relations. It’s a mutual using, which quickly turns into a scorching mutual attraction. In fact, their naughty little sexcapades are the only thing they aren’t faking!

Please enter. Drinks are served by the elves in the corner.

Hi Elves!!!  Happy Holidays J

What’s your favorite holiday and why?

Christmas.  I love this time of year.  There is such a wonderful feeling of anticipation and caring in the air.  The food, the decorations, the parties.  I love it all.  And, of course, I love presents :-D    Giving, getting.  It’s all great!!!

Did you ask Santa for anything good?

Did I have to be good to ask Santa for something?  Hmm… :-D    I’d love it if Santa brought me a killer pair of boots are some sparkly diamond earrings.  Or a pen.  I really do want a good pen that writes well with purple ink.  I keep asking for that in my stocking, but haven’t got it yet :-D

What’s your favorite place to spend the holidays?

Home.  I love being home for the holidays.  I love it even more if my parents and grandma are here, too.

What is your favorite Christmas memory?

Holding my newborn daughter.  I had her a couple of weeks before Christmas, so she was the most amazing gift I could have imagined.  It was like the holidays were rest then, with everything fresh and new and sparkly just like it’d been when I was a kid.

Do you have personal resolutions for the New Years? Anything interesting?

My biggest personal resolution is to learn to manage my time better.  I try to juggle so many things (and if I follow through with the rest of my resolutions, I’m gonna be one busy gal in 2012!), so being able to fit everything in without going crazy is the top resolution for the year.

Why do you write romance?

Because I believe in the power and magic of falling in love.

How long have you been writing for? And how would you describe your publication journey?

I started writing in 2002 and sold my first book in 2006.  I think I’d describe my journey as stubborn *g*  From the beginning, I knew what line and editor I wanted to write for and I didn’t give up until it happened.

Are you a plotter or pantser? What is your routine?

I’m a plotter all the way!  I usually come up with the premise to pitch to my editor first.  Then, if she’s on board, I’ll start focusing on characters and fleshing the premise into a saleable synopsis.  After that I write the first three chapters of the story.  And then I rewrite the first three chapters.  And then I rewrite them a few more times.  Once the partial feels right, I’ll revise my synopsis (which never looks anything like what I thought it would at this point) and create a plotting board to map out the emotional journey and key scenes.  At that point, I can write the rest of the story pretty quickly.

What characteristics do all your heroes/heroines have in all your stories?

My heroines all have a deep and abiding love for shoes.  An addiction, even.  I have no idea where they get it :-D

What writing resources do you abide by as a writer?

GMC rules all :-D   For every aspect of the story there needs to be a goal, conflict that stands in the way of achieving that goal, and a strong enough motivation to force the characters to face that conflict, even though they don’t want to.

What advice would you give aspiring authors?

Be stubborn :-)   If your dream is worth having, it’s worth working for and sticking with!

What are you working on right now?

I’m working on a Blaze for next December right now, tentatively titled The Panty Thief.  I’m sure the title will change, but it’s amusing me as I write :-D    The hero is investigating a series of burglaries—some creep is stealing ladies panties, and leaving nasty letters behind based on the 12 Days of Christmas.

What news would you like to share with your readers?

I’d love to ask readers to visit my website and check out my Undercover Operative stories.  Also, I’m having a contest for a $100 gift card – all someone has to do is post a review of one of my books to be entered.

That’s so neat. I didn’t know your heroines have an addiction to shoes but it’ll be interesting to see how they play out in your books. I’ll find out soon enough :) It’s going to be a green Christmas over here but of course, it never hurts to add a little heat in the winter. Happy Holidays!

  • Silke Juppenlatz Says:

Hi Tawny, love the interview. :)
A good pen that takes purple ink? Well…
If you like fountain pens, go for one of the Lamy Studio Fountain Pens. (It even comes in violet!) and some nice Herbin Poussiere de Lune (#48) (A darkish purple), or Violette Pensee (77) which is a brighter purp;e/violet. (Or be a devil, get an ink converter and a bottle of each — and mix colors)
Sorry. You said the word “Pen” and “Ink” and the Fountain Pen aficionado in me was awakened lol. (I swear by them for writing, because they are less prone to give you a cramp in your hand.)
The books sound great! I’ll have to grab some of them. :)

  • Silke Juppenlatz Says:

    OH, PS.
I can recommend all the Herbin inks. Smooth, great colors (any of them) and they dry fast too. (You can check the colors on their website. They have a great variety.)
Sorry for sounding like a Herbin advert lol.
Have a great New Year and I hope you can take some time out to catch your breath too, while you run around getting all your resolutions sorted!

  • Sarah McNeal Says:

I love the stories with shoe fascination. LOL Great advice to new writers. A writer has to be stubbornly persistant to succeed, but if one wants it, the dream will come true.
I wish you all the best.

  • Connie Fischer Says:

Hi, Tawny! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and at least got that pen with the purple ink. I like purple ink too but have a hard time finding it. I just want to congratulate you on all of your successes and tell you how much I enjoy your books. I wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. Remain being stubborn! I like that. It’s the sign of a great author.

  • Arwen Says:

Tawny Weber lies! No way is she old enough to drink. She’s so gorgeous. :) And her books are fun reads. Yes, I’m a fan.
