Eggnog or Mimosas? Are you old enough to drink? I’m ripe enough for anything and everything, including a spiked eggnog. Yum! J
We’re also taking pictures with Santa, did you bring a gift for him? (Maybe a new release or a pretty book cover…) I’m hoping my newest release, Chosen by Sin, will persuade Santa to take some extra cuddling time in front of the fire with Mrs. Clause. J
The longest life isn’t always the happiest one…
Five years after the Second Civil War ends, humans and Otherborn—humanlike creatures with superhuman DNA—still struggle for peace. To ensure the continued rights of both, the FBI forms a Para-Ops team with a unique set of skills.
For now, werebeast Dex Hunt serves on the Para-Ops team, but his true purpose is to kill the werewolf leader he blames for his mother’s death. Biding his time, Dex keeps his emotional distance from his team members and anyone else he might care for, including a mysterious vampire he met in LA.
As a doctor, vampire Jesmina Martin has dedicated her immortal life to healing others. As a scientific researcher, she’s trying to prolong life spans, in particular those of her adoptive dragon-shifter family and the werewolf who saved her as a child. Her greatest hope lies with Dex, a werebeast she believes can gift immortality to others.
Only Dex knows nothing about his gift or the fact Jesmina wants to harness it. After a passionate night together neither expects to see the other again. Weeks later, they are reunited in France and forced to acknowledge a fragile miracle—a new life struggling to survive. At the same time, they must stop a group of rebel shape-shifters hoping to unleash every demon in hell. But before Dex and Jesmina can save their child or the world, they must relinquish their secrets, face their fears, and open themselves to love.
Please enter. Drinks are served by the elves in the corner.
Ooh, nice! Does Santa know or should I keep this on the hush-hush? J
What’s your favorite holiday and why?
I love the fall, pumpkin bread, crisp walks and cozy fires, seeing my kids dress up and have fun… It’s all good. Except I will admit we still have some Halloween decorations scattered throughout the house. I’m much better at decorating than putting stuff away!
Did you ask Santa for anything good?
Honestly, I’m so blessed, but I can always use some extra energy and time. I want it all, but am ever aware that I can’t do it all. L
What’s your favorite place to spend the holidays?
Honestly, in my own home. We travel so much in order to see family, which is awesome, but I fantasize about being able to spend Christmas day just napping, watching movies, enjoying gifts and not caring one iota about cleaning up Christmas wrapping, etc.
What is your favorite Christmas memory?
Every Christmas getting to see the joy on my sons’ faces.
Do you have personal resolutions for the New Years? Anything interesting?
Professionally, I want to start writing in small chunks everyday. I usually hole up and write in massive bursts, which can be draining and stressful. Personally, I have the same resolution to eat healthier and get in shape…Maybe this year will be the one??? Ugh.
Why do you write romance?
Because I’m a true believer that love is humanity’s greatest strength and the most likely source of change and redemption. Love encompasses everything that is important—self-respect, community, kindness, hope, and passion. I think romance novels have the ability to empower others and remind them of the magic in life.
How long have you been writing for? And how would you describe your publication journey?
I’ve been writing for five years and my journey has been tumultuous, filled with super highs and devastating lows. I stuck with it, however, and although I continue to struggle with balancing the creative, business and personal aspects of my life, I’m thrilled to be writing and to have met so many wonderful readers, writers, and industry professionals.
Are you a plotter or pantser? What is your routine?
I’m mostly a pantser with plotting tendencies. I write in short periods of time, but can get stymied if “something” in the story, particularly the beginning, doesn’t feel right. I usually start to panic at some point, talk things through, then find that “ah ha” moment when things just start to flow and I churn out pages.
What characteristics do all your heroes/heroines have in all your stories?
I think they all have flaws and a hint of darkness in them, but also the passion, honor, and strength to overcome them. And ultimately, they have a deep need for love and the same need to give their love to another.
What writing resources do you abide by as a writer?
Romance Writers of America is a great organization and source of support, offering classes and networking opportunities. I’m constantly learning about craft and am very interested in screenwriting structure and how it helps novelists.
What advice would you give aspiring authors?
Be willing to be uncomfortable, keep moving forward, and don’t hold anything in reserve.
What are you working on right now?
Right now I’m working on book 2 in my HQN SIG (Special Investigations Group) contemporary romantic suspense series. Shades of Temptation comes out late 2012 . The first book, Shades of Desire, comes out in June and the series is about a group of special agents (the state equivalent of the FBI) who are the “best of the best,” and help other agencies solve crimes across the state. Shades Of Temptation is my darkest suspense to date and involves a serial killer.
What news would you like to share with your readers?
I have lots of projects in the works but am excited to work on the next Para-Ops book, which will center on the team mage, Lucy Talbot, and Cyrus Mead, the dragon-shifter introduced in Chosen By Sin.
Thank you so much for having me here! Wishing all your readers a joyous holiday season!
