Why I Love Shifters!

Today, we’re blogging with Sondrae Bennett! Pull up a chair! Have a drink!

Why I Love Shifters

I’ve always been fascinated by animals. The beauty and strength prevalent in every move. The power that builds almost visibly as their muscles bunch for an attack. The expressive nature of their tails and ears. When I was younger, I thought I wanted to be a veterinarian. Of course, that dream disappeared once I realized vets didn’t just play with animals all day long.

A few years ago, I picked up my first shapeshifter romance and my life was forever altered. I’ve been an avid reader of romance for over fifteen years, but the world of paranormal romance was new to me. Imagine my surprise when my love for reading romance melded with my fascination for animals. As if a door had opened, ideas flooded into my head. Helpless to resist, I opened my computer and began writing. And I haven’t stopped.

The past Monday, the third book in my Alpine Woods Shifters series came out with Lyrical Press. The story features Julie, the youngest of the Callahan family and the only one of the siblings born full human, and Brendan, a longtime friend of Julie’s sister. It takes all of his persistence to win her over. To find out if he succeeds, pick up a copy of The Wolf Within, available at Lyrical Press, Amazon, and digital bookstores everywhere!

Blurb:

Will his love be enough to keep her safe?

Julie doesn’t know what to think when the man she’s had a crush on her entire life–a man she thinks is meant to be her sister’s mate–starts flirting with her after she returns home from college. The harder she tries to distance herself, the harder he works to win her over. He can’t want to mate with her…a freak born a full human among shifters. So why won’t he accept her rejection?

Brendan’s waited years for Julie’s return. Now that she’s finally home, there’s nothing to keep him from her…not even her three alpha wolf brothers. But he’s not the only one after Julie. Something is stalking her and Brendan’s protective instincts toward her kick in.

When the unthinkable happens, will Julie and Brendan’s love give them the strength they need to persevere?

Hi Sondrae, I love shifters as well and at one point I wanted to be a vet!

Raising my hand here, another Shifter-Lover in the house! I can still remember the first shifter book I read (a Lora Leigh Breeder book) and how I was hooked forever. When I started writing I knew that Shifters would ALWAYS play a major role in my books.

Thanks for sharing and soooo loved the Excerpt! Gotta read this book! Wow, great Cover too!

    Wishing you great Sales!

Thanks so much, Kari. I actually can’t recall what my very first shifter book was. Probably because as soon as I read one, I went out and bought a ton more. :)

Ooh, I love shifters too, but mostly because of True Blood. I never quite got the appeal of the whole shifter thing until I saw Sam switch from a man to a dog. Or a fly. Or…well, pretty much whatever he needed to at the time.

Your book sounds great. What a compelling conflict. Another on my TBB (and R!) pile! :)

  • Sondrae Bennett Says:

Thanks, Cyn. I’ll admit I haven’t read the series, but I recently saw season one of the tv show. I agree with you, Sam was nice to watch :)

I must admit I used to read mostly historical, science fiction and contemporary romances until… I picked up my first shifter book (The first book in Shelly Laurenston’s Magnus Pack series) I loved that book. I laughed so hard at the antics of the characters. I was hooked ever since. Now I read almost exclusively shifter books with a little sci fi, futuristic, contemporary, historical thrown in here and there. I am not a writer, but I appreciate good writing. You are a new author for me and I will be getting your shifter books soon. Thank you for sharing them with us. Your books will be added to my wish list and I will be stalking, I mean following your writing.

  • Sondrae Bennett Says:

Thank you, Renee. Shelly Laurenston is one of my favorites, too. Actually, it would be safe to say SL is my absolute favorite. I can’t get enough of her books, and often find myself rereading the books in her Pride series.

Shifters are awesome. I remember the first shift I saw on TV as a child. It was on an old scifi show space 1999. Shifters have had a special place in my heart and my writing ever since. I particularly enjoy unusual shifters like dragons.
